Rippey Lions Club – The Rippey Lions Club was pleased to host Norman Devilbiss from Cheyenne, WY, at the meeting on Feb. 15, 2018. He was the guest of his nephew Mark Devilbiss. Norman enjoyed visiting with the club members and sharing Rippey community and school memories. The Lions reviewed the recent BRR activities of serving food for riders and community folks and began plans for next year. Thanks to all who shared in the day. The next regular meeting will be March 1 at 7 pm at the Rippey United Methodist Church. Visitors are always welcome. ~Nancy Hanaman, reporting.
Rippey library news, Shawneene’s Corner – On Saturday, Feb. 17, the Rippey public library held its annual soup lunch fundraiser. They say that a good bowl of soup warms the soul.
The faithful library supporters gathered together on a snowy, blustery Saturday morning, looking to warm their souls. They enjoyed a variety of hot, delicious soups, soups, chilies, and stews. The table was also laden with plenty of desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth.
It is also said, that good soup is one of the prime ingredients of good living. This could not be any more true when one witnesses a community coming together to show their support of the library. It shows their passion and commitment for our youth and adult patrons, their growth in literacy and learning from books, presenters, and technology that is offered at the library.
Our library constantly has to adapt and transform our focus with the changing times. We are being looked upon as a “21 Century” library. It is only by the support from the community that makes it possible for our library to provide these services.
I would like to thank Angie Trent, Mark and Ty Kenan, my board members Jean Borgeson, Connie Neese, and president Dale Hannaman and his wife Nancy, who helped make Saturday a success. A special thank you goes to Mary and Gary Weaver of the Friends of Rippey as well as Myron and Maralynn Rinker, longtime supporters of the library, who are always willing help with these projects. Rippey Methodist Church – In the absence of Pastor Paul Burrow, Schyler Bardole provided the sermon Sunday, Feb. 18. Titled “An Immaterial Likeness,” Schyler’s inspiration was his new son Adam, who he proudly introduced to his congregation that morning. Adam Timothy Wayne Bardole was born Feb. 5, 2018 to Schyler and Lauren Bardole of Churdan.
Adam’s grandparents, Karla King of Churdan and Tim and Lori Bardole, as well as his Aunt Cassie and Uncle Gabe Bardole were in church to hear Schyler, also. Rounding out the four generations in attendance were Adam’s great-grandparents Roy and Phyllis Bardole. Regrets were sent by the other local great-grandparents Phil and Toni Roberts, who are still recovering from the Type A flu virus.
Phil and Toni have been blessed by two great-grandsons this month. While their daughter, Lori and Tim Bardole, relish in the fun of their first grandchild, their son Chris and Brenda Roberts welcomed another grandson. Their daughter Lindsay and Randy Rinehart gave birth to Bentley Robert on Feb. 21, 2018. Good health can’t come soon enough for Phil and Toni, so they can hold these little guys in their arms! These births are truly blessings in what has been a challenging few weeks for them.
Connie Neese and Jean Borgeson visited with Eleanor Whiton at the Rowley Masonic Home in Perry on Saturday afternoon after attending the library soup luncheon. Eleanor was glad to share with Jean that her table mate at meal time is a former Woodward resident and when leaving, Jean and Violet Clymer enjoyed a brief visit before the evening meal was served. Violet is past 100 years old and remembered Jean’s parents. Their children all attended their school years together at Woodward. Ben Vannatta was enjoying time in the pool room with his daughter and family, Teresa and Bryan Mower and their girls, and he was glad to take time to visit a bit, also.
